Have you recently purchased a new home or want to redo your landscaping?  As most landscapers in Green Bay or Appleton, we get a lot of calls from home owners who are wondering ‘How much does landscaping cost?’ Whether you are building your landscaping plan or if you just started to work with a landscaper designer (check out what to expect when hiring a landscape designer here), I am going to give you some ball park price ranges for how much landscaping costs. These costs are for typical landscaping in Green Bay and Appleton so the costs for your project could be more (or slightly less).

Outdoor Living Amenities.

One of the most popular functions that homeowners are looking for is a place to cook and hang out with friends and family in an outdoor living area.  Popular outdoor living amenities include custom built grills, pizza ovens, outdoor kitchens, outdoor refrigerators, outdoor sound systems, outdoor TVs, and bars.  How much will these outdoor living amenities add to your landscaping cost?  $8,000 to $75,000.

Fire Pit.

Fire pits are still hands down, the most requested landscaping addition to a patio.  A fire pit could wood burning or run from natural gas that is connected to your house.  When you add a natural gas hook up you won’t have to worry about waiting for the fire to start, keeping a supply of wood, or wait for the fire to burn down.  How much will a fire pit add to your landscaping cost? $500 to $2,500.

Fireplace.

Do you want a focal point in your outdoor living area?  A fireplace really gives you the ‘wow’ factor.  Check out Landscape Associates’ gallery for examples. How much will a fireplace add to the cost of your landscaping? $10,000 to $25,000.

Paver Patio.

The cost of a paver patio is going to vary based on the size and the materials you choose. Make sure you talk to your landscape designer about how you want to use it so they recommend the appropriate size.  You can read more about how big of a patio you need here.  How much will a paver patio add to your landscaping cost?  $10,000 to $25,000.

Natural Stone Patio.

Some of the most beautiful projects Landscape Associates’ has worked on has featured natural stone.  You can see some examples here.  How much will a natural stone patio add to your landscaping cost? $15,000 to $30,000.

Irrigation.

An irrigation system makes it so much easier to water a new lawn and will give you a greener lawn faster.  Often times you can even have the controller installed inside your garage for convenient access.  How much will an irrigation system add to your landscaping cost? $4,000 to $10,000.

Lawn Installation.

You can read more about whether you should go with seed or sod for your new lawn here.  How much will lawn installation add to your landscaping cost? $3,000 to $8,000.

Front Yard Planting.

A front yard planting will usually contain a mix of shrubs, perennials, and trees around the foundation of your home.  Size of plants, mulch material, and which edging you choose will affect the price.  How much will a front yard planning add to your landscaping cost?  $2,000 to $8,000.

Backyard Planting.

A backyard planting is going to give you privacy, shade, and give you something nice to look at while you are relaxing around your outdoor living area.  Typically, it is going to be a larger than the front yard and the planting will contain a larger number of landscape plants.  How much will a backyard planting add to your landscaping cost?  $8,000 to $25,000.

Sitting Wall.

A sitting wall is a nice accent to a patio and gives you more seating with taking up much more space.  They can also help break up larger patios and define a dining area from a fire pit area.  How much will a sitting wall add to your landscaping cost? $3,000 to $5,000.

Retaining Wall.

You can use a retaining wall to give you more level lawn in your landscaping or tackle grade change challenges. How high and long the retaining wall is and what material it is made out of will affect the cost. How much will a retaining wall add to your landscaping cost? $2,000 to $50,000.

Landscape Lighting.

What’s the point of a nice outdoor living area if you can’t see what you are doing at night? A landscaping project always seems like it is missing something if there isn’t landscape lighting. How much will landscape lighting add to your landscaping cost?  $3,000 to $10,000.

Pergola.

Roofed or not, a pergola gives you another ‘room’ that you can use for dining, cooking, or relaxing with friends and family.  You are limited with how large you can make a pergola but the wood working details and whether it is roofed or not will affect the price the most. How much will a pergola add to your landscaping cost?  $4,000 to $15,000.

Water Feature.

From fountains to ponds, there are many different options on how to add a water feature to your landscaping. The trickling of fountain or waterfall can help drowned out the noise of a busy highway (or neighbors).   How much will a water feature add to your landscaping cost? $5,000 to $15,000.

Holiday Lighting.

This is also covered in another article, how much does landscape maintenance cost?  This question is so common because many homeowners are interested in this service so I decided to put it in here as well.  Let someone else put up, take down, and store your holiday lights from now on.  How much will holiday lighting add to your landscaping cost? $600 +.
